MILE OF MUSIC 2014 :: Artist Portraits
A few months ago we were approached by our good friend John Adams to play an integral part in the Feather & Bone pop-up art gallery at this year’s Mile of Music. John brought the idea to me about setting up a portrait shooting space at the art gallery he was curating as a part of the quickly rising music festival here in my hometown of Appleton, WI. From the onset, I fell in love with the concept and jumped at the opportunity to become an even bigger part of this extremely talented community and amazing event.
We set up shop in the old Northstar Contractor building at 610 W Lawrence Street, just off College Ave in downtown Appleton. John curated an amazing gallery, titled ‘The Fearsome Creatures of the Lumberwoods‘ and collaborated with artist Chad Brady and the Mile of Music team to get it off the ground. John gathered a tremendously talented group of local & regional artists to submit work to be shown throughout the 4 day music festival. And it was by far the coolest place to hang out at the entire event!
We were given the second floor of the gallery to set-up a shooting space and create a VIP lounge for Mile of Music artists & musicians. We spent the better part of a week setting up in the space and two full days shooting musicians as they made their way to the gallery. We moved half our studio to the space, grabbed some hardwood boards from our friends at Factotum USA and custom designed the canvas shooting backdrop for our set-up (photos below). We met so many amazing people over the course of four days, that I could never thank everybody enough for all they did to make this the highlight of our year. Huge thanks go out to my family, Adam & Annette Koepke, John Adams, Cory Chisel, Chad Brady and Dave Willems for all they did!
Below are a handful of shots I took at Mile of Music. I will be showing these next year at Mile 3 in our shooting space when we return in 2015. Enjoy!
